Job Title: Head of Department – Cables and Mains
Location: Twickenham, Great London
Contract type: Permanent/Full Time
Salary: £35,000 – £40,000 depending on experience

The Head of the Cables and Mains Department (HOD) plays a vital role in the warehouse operation.  As Cables and Mains HOD, you will be responsible for efficiently managing and oversee all aspects of the Cables Department, including repairs, maintenance and inventory control. You will be responsible for managing the departmental staff and training junior staff, Apprentices and warehouse Operatives.  You will communicate and work with the Warehouse Management, the Operations Department, other Heads of Departments (H.O.D.’s) and Crew regarding the timing of project delivery and be in charge of quality control, ensuring that all cable is in top condition, clean and safe to use. You will be the point of contact for crew and visiting engineers as they prep in the warehouse.

What will you do?

Cable & Mains Management: 

  • Overall Management of the Cables Department
  • Maintenance and Repairs of:
    • Distros & transformers – repairs, modifications, upgrades in line with the Wiring Regulations
  • Cables – re-soldering multipin connectors, changing damaged connectors on cables ie.
  • Mains cables – powerlock, 3phase AC Ceeform cables ranging from 125A to 16A, Single phase Ceeform AC cables ranging from 63A to 16A , Neutrik PowerCon cables, American AC cables
  • Signal cables – multicores 6-48ch, XLR’s 3-6pin, D-sub cables
  • Data cables – Cat5, cat6, Cat7, Ethercons
  • RF cables – N-type, BNC
  • Speaker cables – Speakon NL4, NL8, EPA-Con 8pole, Socapex, EP speaker cables
  • Manage Cable inventory and provide Accounts Department with financial information regarding stock
  • Provide Mains Plot to the crew when requested
  • Manage and oversee In-service inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment in the warehouse (PAT), this includes sending Testers to be calibrated, uploading results to server, loading test settings to testers
  • Sourcing & ordering spare parts & consumables
  • Communicate shortages or other issues/concerns to Warehouse Manager & Operations Department
  • Identify improvements of departmental workflow. Identify optimization of our existing infrastructure

Training Responsibilities:

  • Supervising, training, and mentoring department staff on the Company Standard
  • Planning & reporting on long term development & training of junior staff (Apprentices, Warehouse Operatives & New Staff) to Training Manager
  • To manage and supervise the work of the casual staff allocated to the department
  • Train Junior staff, Apprentices and casual staff whilst in the department in line with company expectations
  • Develop new and/or improve existing procedures and ensure others are following them
  • Ensure all staff abides by the health and safety policy and wear required PPE at all times

What skills are we looking for?

  • Experience with manufacturing/repairing cables would be beneficial
  • Knowledge and experience with Fibre Cables
  • Competent with heavy mains
  • Good electrical knowledge both single and 3 phase
  • Good knowledge of Protection devices
  • Good understanding of Transformers
  • Ability to read electrical diagrams

  • Knowledge of the Live Sound Industry

  • Standard working hours are 35 per week Monday to Friday. Some evenings and weekend work may be required as part of paid overtime
