On Sunday June 12th 2016, The Mall in St James’s Park was transformed for its largest ever street party to celebrate The Queen’s patronage of over 600 charities and organisations on the occasion of her 90th birthday.
The Patron’s Lunch was devised to recognise the support and service the Queen has given to the community over her 63 year reign. The Mall was the centrepiece to a magnificent sight with 10,000 guests, the majority of which were representatives from the Patron’s Organisations, taking part in a classic British ‘street party’.
Despite the rain the invited guests enjoyed a hamper-style lunch at tables positioned along the full length of The Mall, with a parade and Union Jack flags set out along the mall. Her Majesty the Queen was joined by the Duke of Edinburgh and other members of the Royal Family to celebrate the occasion who along with the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry walked down the mall shaking hands and chatting to the lunch guests and in some cases stopping for selfies!
The day was not only celebrated on the mall but also by the general public who were able to soak up the festivities at large screens situated in the Royal Parks; Green Park and St James’s Park.
